Happiness is a Warm Bun

September 16, 2008 11:00 PM

Half way through working on this I started to realize how stupid and ridiculous it was but it's definetely not the worst thing I've posted, or maybe it is, I dunno.

The Beatles are a band I hold near and dear to my heart so for a sec I felt kinda bad parodying one of John's songs. But than I started to think about the basis of the original, John saw "happiness is a warm gun" written on the cover of some gun magazine, like it was just shot. That in itself is super ridiculous so I'm hoping Mr. Lennon wouldn't mind me parodying something he was kinda parodying, and gun and bun was such an easy rhyme I couldn't help but pass it up.

I'm not familiar with the original (*ducks*) and the first thing I thought of when I saw the title was The Untold Story. Clearly, um, not, though.

This has a nice feel to it, in any case.

I listened to the White album while I was stuck in some traffic last week, and it struck me what a fantastic song Happiness is a Warm Gun is. This is fun. And I really like the sound of the lead guitar.

Wow wasn't expecting such a warm reception, I guess I'm remembering when nike used "Revolution" in one of their commercials and some Beatles fans when ape shit for defacing a Beatles song, and they didn't even talk about food.

As an occasional destroyer of Beatles songs, I can't help but share your weird joyful ambivalence about this sort of thing.

One of these days, we should get a whole MeFi cover album together. I don't know if it'd be good, precisely, but it'd be fun and weird.
