Greensleeves

For the "Traditional" MefiMusic challenge. In which I get all George Winston-y up in here.

My first Mefi Music song post! It's an arrangement of Greensleeves I came up with a few years ago, emulating George Winston.

Tools: This is nothing but Garageband, using the "Orchestra Steinway Piano" that comes with their Orchestral JamPack.

(To go along with a question I posted here yesterday - I did zero effects or filtering or whatever to this. I made a couple tries at tweaking the "EQ" that's in Garageband but in the end wasn't totally pleased and thought "let's just go with it raw and untweaked this time and see what anyone says." To my ears there's a sort of "fuzziness" or muddiness to it overall - that could just be my headphones or speakers, or it could be my lead foot on the sustain pedal (really, I'm trying to lighten up, it's just years of the habit) or it could be just that it really does need some EQ adjustment or something. Any tips would be appreciated!!)

This sounds fine to me, on the chintzy little headphones I have at work. I think--and I haven't used the new GarageBand--that the channel strip presets often include some kind of EQ and compression by default.

And I dig the performance, too!

Refereshing to hear someone just...playing. Whilst this is obviously not a "real" piano it sounds fine and doesn't need any EQ or other tweaking. Generally everyone gets too hung up on all that technical nonsense - most important thing is to get a good performance down and a good sound to start with. Otherwise you're trying to polish a turd. The more recording I do the less EQ etc I use - go figure. Anway, this is very pleasant and fitting to hear on sunny winter Sunday in the English countryside.

Magnificent! As a mere turd-polisher myself, I envy your pure and genuine talent.
