It Would Appear

The first line of this song is a slightly reworked comment I got on a photo I posted to Flickr. That was the spark that inspired the rest of the song. Oh, and it's a spoken song. Video of this performance at YouTube and Vimeo.

IT WOULD APPEAR

it would appear that you swim in a reality
left dry for others
wouldn't it baby
it could be said that you're an only child
with a thousand hungry brothers
couldn't it baby - couldn't it baby

i'm just a rubber band
around your finger twirled
i know i'm just
a tiny little part of your world
but that's alright that's alright

the restless clock that seems to swallow us up
doesn't even tick for you
does it baby
and the man who was supposed to bring your curtain down
he missed his cue
didn't he baby

i'm just a little trinket
you keep on your knick knack shelf
i hardly even know
hardly even know myself
but that's alright that's alright

you always leave the people you don't need
dying at the edge of town
don't you baby - don't you baby
i guess you'll sail into the sunset
while everybody else's ship goes down
won't you baby - won't you baby

and i'll just live in the corner
in the corner of your eye
maybe you'll keep forgetting me
right up til the day i die
but that's alright that's alright

Love this Flapjax - really, really good stuff. Redolent of His Bobness. I'm itching to put a melody to that lyric, I could hear a hook around the various "couldn't it baby" repeats. With your permission or course, may I take a shot at that? I wouldn't upload anything unless you'd ok'd it first.

You've got some soul, brother, you've got some soul. I'm feelin' it and I'm gettin' a little Langston Hughes vibe too...and that's nuthin' but all kinds a good!

Oh my god I had to click stop right away because of the sound effects...I have a visceral reaction to that sound; that sort of footsteps-in-fresh-packing-snow, someone-rubbing-those-styrofoam-packing-peanuts-together sound...ack...
