Vignette#2 - Widow's Weeds

March 7, 2010 3:13 AM

An observation on the bitterness of divorce - not, thankfully, from personal experience.

Took my shoes
Took my clothes
Took my money
Took my kids
Took my life

Now you're standing here
Dressed in widow's gear
Fuck off

There were lies
There were deals
There was......stuff
I didn't know too much about....stuff

You got what you need
Dressed in widow's weeds

So don't come here
To "make things clear"

You got what you need
Dressed in widow's weeds.

Should have added - recording quality of this isn't great (noisy right-channel guitar), but....there it is, warts and all

Funny, man, I was writing a similar kind of song last night, but ended up getting pretty angry with the "subject matter" and went to be.

Warts and all, this is pretty good...enjoyable.

After the first half, I was ready to say I wasn't too into it. But then I came around at "...stuff." And the last three couplets (if that's what they're called) work really well for me. Both in terms of the writing and the delivery.

After listening five times, I'm really feeling it. Feels like a sketch, perhaps, but one that's substantive.

Thanks guys. Actually edlundart, it is pretty much a sketch (the ragged ending gives it away) but one that somehow seemed to resist "development" without losing the focus of it. I think this is an example of something I tried unsuccessfully to get going on MeFiMu a while back where unfinished ideas could be uploaded and if someone else had a flash of inspiration to take it further - great. Personally, I can't do any more with this.
