The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Roberta Flack cover)

May 23, 2010 10:57 AM

umbú and I were born pretty close to each other, since this song was also #1 on the week I was born. For some reason, I pictured my version performed by some weird mix of Geinoh Yamashirogumi and Tokyo Jihen.

I'm posting it now to get it in before the end of the month, but I think I'd probably work on it a bit more. If I do, I probably will post an updated version in the future.

This is really gorgeous. Loving the harmonies and the voicing! It works really well like this, all a capella. Reminds me just a bit of Imogen Heap. My boyfriend says it reminds him of some Mew... Anyway, I love it!

I wanted the vocals to sound like I was using the Melodyne Harmony EVO plug-in that Imogen Heap uses, but since I don't have it, I multi-tracked the vocals and edited them with the V-Vocal pitch correction plug-in in SONAR. The background chorus was multi-tracked 11 times and fed through a very heavy reverb.

Wow, crazy. This reminds of that one Bon Iver song, a little.

The continuous background chorus is really great.

It's a neat cross between organic and alien.

(You've got a typo in your tags -- you need another "c" between "music" and "challenge" -- it's not showing up in the "Challenge" playlist right now.)
