A Brand New Fabrication

July 8, 2010 12:17 AM

The lyrical counterpoint to "My Cirripedian Friends".

One foot in the shadow,
Of our house by the sea.
One foot in the water,
That carried you away.

Another lonely suicide,
Silenced by, a brand new.
Fabrication.

They'll find your body,
On the other shore,
On the other side of the world.

This will be, the basis of,
A brand new myth,
To tell our children,
Of how you left this prosaic shore,
To find adventure,
Along the faultlines, yeah!

One eye on the mirror,
Finds it hard to see,
One eye on the shipwreck,
That led you from the quay.

This is really nice. The loping guitar part is almost hypnotic, and reminds me of something (not "Blackbird," although it recalls that, too), but I can't quite put my finger on it. It all works really well with your voice.

Thanks, uncleozzy. It's more closely related to Blackbird than you think. The B/G/B/G/C melody that accompanies the G major to A minor transition is pretty much the intro to Blackbird, which I only realized when you mentioned it!

The lo-fi nature of this is really appealing, and I like your voice and vocals here. I'd love to here some harmonies in this.

This is beautiful. Heartbreaking. There's something so melancholy about that cycle of chords. Just going from G to Am (combined with the contemplative tempo) for some reason sets that mood right away.
