Higher (the slam poetry version)

May 20, 2011 10:27 AM

Inspired by vampire deer and DaDaDaDave and their covers of Creed, I couldn't help myself. This is a self-serious slam poem version of Higher, with a bit of my dad's Lutheran minister preaching style mixed in.

I'm sorry.

Hey, I'm a sucker for stuff like this and your voice sounds great. If you ever want to recite some actual poetry or narrate a song/story, please feel free to. I'd dig it!

Pitch perfect. I visualise you standing in a pulpit with a congregation of old ladies, FWIW.

I may have to a remix of this with the pump organ as a backing.

I definitely don't hate spoken word or anything (I've heard a few that were really effective), but I like the idea of a shirtless Scott Stapp anonymously testing out his lyrics in earnest, under-lit, slam poetry circles in an alley somewhere. But watch the music video; in actuality, there is no need to parody Creed.
