My allotted song for the July Metafilter Music Radiohead Extravaganza.

I had originally started something more sombre a few weeks ago but ditched it. This has been insane because we have been home for about 3 days this month, but I really wanted to get something done. Wish I had more time to flesh things out a bit. I stayed up until 5am this morning throwing this craziness together and we are seriously leaving in less than an hour to get on a plane to Europe and my clothes are still all over the bed in a giant pile.

Stop being so damn talented!!! (Note: Ignore my previous statement and don't ever stop - this is awesome) Can't believe this is your "I threw this together track"

Jesus christ, man. This is fantastic, I'm glad you managed to knock it out in your little slice of time.

I can't decide if I love the drums/percussion or the wah guitar more. OH FINE I LOVE THEM BOTH EQUALLY.

Wonderful. The instrumental breaks in the first section are solid gold.

This conjures up the fiction in my head of a sibling spacetime dimension where Elliot Smith and The Specials convened in the late 70s to produce something called "Overly Suspicious Robot".

And then Radiohead stole it.

(by that I mean, this is fucking rad.)

Wow. This is greatness. So much to take in, I have to listen to this a few more times.

My excitement that chococat posted a challenge track was not met with disappointment after having listened to it.

And here we [askmeaboutLOOM and myself] are on the 12th with big plans and only a couple of parts committed to disk.

Well done, sir. Well done.

Hey thanks everybody. I'm sitting in a plane at the gate right now so this is my last chance to comment for a while.
I had to do some last high-ass singing in the basement at about 11 this morning while everybody was running around upstairs packing, and when I sang the "rain down, rain down" part someone flushed a toilet upstairs and the big pipes beside my mic were alive with sound. I didn't have time for a re-take but it's kind of appropriate anyway. You can hear it if you solo the track.

Well. It actually took me three listens before I decided that I now like your version better than the original, which is saying a lot. Still, I had expected you to do it in just two listens. I think it was the toilet flush that had me on the fence there for a while. Say "hi" to Europe for me.

This is how you keep close to the source material, yet still make it completely different. Radiohead, via Jamiroquai? I mean that in the best of ways.

chococat will get to europe without moving?

This is a really nice take on the song. As always, I'm blown away by not only the tightness of your vocal parts, but how well they fit in the mix.

I couldn't place where I'd heard the drums at 3:18 before. And then I realized why they were so familiar. (at 1:12)

As opposed to those other submissions, amirite?

Nice job, man.

The guitar in the beginning sounds right out of Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 which is, thematically, a really great association. Awesome.

I wasn't really feeling the challenge this month, despite my initial eagerness, but this total deliciousness brought back the desire, and your tight timeframe just made me feel lazy so I'll find a way to make mine happen. Thanks for the motivation.

Yes, as opposed to the other submissions thus far. It was my opinion that this one was significantly better. See, I come from a generation that didn't run screaming in terror from the idea that it is okay to judge one thing as being better than another. I apologise if that upsets you. Or not, possibly.
