Sleep Test

November 27, 2015 2:00 PM

A pop song about a POW being subjected to sleep experiments in a subterranean Arctic research cell. Solo home demo for an album coming in 2016.

SLEEP TEST

The vessel lines
That map my eyes
Somnolent
The dot of sky
The crimson light
Sanguine

Telegram the flight
Through conjured night
To the waiting
Who chart the climb
Control the time
Of our dreaming

Paralyzed and nightbound
In this R&D town
Deep beneath the snow
I’ve been getting bed rest
Once I pass this sleep test
I’ll be coming home

With their machines
They flood the screens
Of our vision
Encode the plot
On microdots
Intravenous

We look so small
Can't rise at all
What's the difference
Between the womb
Or a lightless room
Once you're in it?

Paralyzed and nightbound etc

At night we sit with the silent director
But he’s just a dream of the moonlight collector
‘Neath the watchful eye of the color corrector
Who adjusts the Y and the CMK
Making day slide away

Paralyzed and nightbound etc

I like the spirit and 'inertia' drive of this song - only one way to go - forward and you do it nicely. I also really like the back vocals... nice use of spatial effect in the recording too :)

I'm enjoying your phrasing, the way you're bending 'somnolent' and 'sanguine' &c. Very interesting theme/narrative setting. Impressionistic, of someone unwilling, desperate to be rescued but consigned to his fate at the hands of faceless others. I don't think he believes he's really going to be allowed to come home, but he needs to say it to comfort himself for the moment.

Great guitar parts. Vocals and effects are nicely far away, and thin and airy like stretched snow fence. A little reminiscent of The Church, but more light shining through it. Really strong.

A really well thought out tune. The lyrics are mysterious and familiar, like something glimpsed out of the corner of your eye. Would you be adding any more to the instruments. like some airy synth?
