Humbler than Thou

Yesterday I sat down behind the old Roland VR drum kit I passed down to my son at Christmas this year to adjust the hardware and give the set up a test run. I recorded a quick video of myself improvising a little groove, but later in the evening, I couldn't help myself and came back to the recording and used a free multitracking app on my phone to record some ridiculous overdubs. The sound quality is awful, of course, but this was a lot of fun to make and really helped me keep my spirits up yesterday on coronation day.

LYRICS
If peeling onions makes you cry
You'd better stay out of the kitchens
Where I dine
Peeling off one layer at a time,
I see you naked and you pretend
Not to mind

Oh, everybody knows I've been
Down and out for so long I can't sin

Sounds great! I am in the process of learning drums, always great to hear that raw feel from a real one (got an electric kit for the time being!).

Oh, that sounded fun. I wish Beck had travelled that same path 20-odd years ago.

xplosiv: That's actually an electric kit I'm playing. The Roland VR kits are amazingly responsive and natural sounding. I got it partly so my kids would have a kit to learn on without driving everybody within earshot nuts, lol.

I was given an Alesis set as a birthday gift a few years ago, and while it's not the top of the line, it definitely lets me get some drumming yaya's out. And, my neighbors don't wanna throttle me!

I'm definitely hearing Beck as well--maybe a B side from Stereopathetic Soul Manure or an early DGC comp. I love stuff like this, songs that were just sort of tumbled together and are barely contained yet remain a whole thing.

The drums really do sound awesome!
