On The Blue (With Apologies to John Coulton, Valve, Et Al)

November 8, 2007 6:09 PM

A parody of the Portal end-theme, as written by robocop is bleeding earlier this afternoon. Confused? See this post for background on the original song.

I've taken a few small liberties with the bleeding lawbot's original lyrics to make it scan a bit better out loud, but it's all cosmetic tweaks.

And the vocals are, of course, nothing to Ellen McLain's. If I'd been taking the time to really do it Right, I'd have used a vocoder to really roboticize my vocals. As it is, I just tried to sing it fairly straight, then compressed the hell out of it, threw on some funky chorus plugin, and EQed it a bit for kicks.

Inspired, in part, by how freakin' awesome the original is; in part by how awesome Valve's output in general lately has been; and in part by new user Soup's eyebrow-raising but innocent enthusiasm in posting about the above the last few days. Hi, Soup!

So this is the song played when you get to the end of Metafilter and defeat mathowie, right?

The url betrays the fact that I originally, bizarrely, brought up John Coulter. Westward ho?

John Lennon meets GLaDOS. And a perfect end to a perfect day . . . and, er, week.

For my next trick, I shall make jessamyn dance! Dance, I say! A-ho-ho-ho!

Sorry, the internets are getting to me. This is awesome! Your changes are pretty on target. As someone who is tonedeaf, trying to sing along to Still Alive while writing MeFi lyrics was an exercise in torture for the Missus and our rabbits.

Nice. And a testament to the new contacts activity feature, since I rarely come to Music and would never have seen this without it (and without having added cortex to my user contacts some time ago). Thanks cortex!
