First Steps into Metropolis

July 3, 2006 9:24 AM

The opening song on a soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist. I've only had the balls to show my friends so far, so I figured I'd let you guys listen. Please don't be too brutal. (Unlike my first HiFi post, this isn't a sampling experiment.)

I dig it.

The bells (?) remind me of the Secret of Mana. For the record, that's some of the best video game music in my opinion, so take it as praise.

Vibraphone, Eideteker. :-)

Glad you guys dig. There's more, but I don't want to show just yet.

Wait, did you mean the vibraphone at the beginning, or the progression that starts around 1:50? The progression is a modified organ.

I really like the keyboard riff that starts it off and lives under everything... that's really nice. IMO, it gets a tad too "synthy" (less organic-sounding) about 2/3 into it, but then it picks up again when you fill out the arrangement. A very nice soundscape.

Definitely the organ. Damn, I like this more and more every time.
