Further Than a Stone

January 10, 2008 9:56 AM

Written by the mando player, Hamdog. I'm playing fiddle - everyone had a blast with this.

I like the harmonies on this one a lot. I'd love to hear us do it with hand drums some day.

New version, great! Hey, by any chance, could you post the lyrics?

Yeah - wonderful stuff.
Love those harmonies.
Must plough through your backlog -
I'm only a newcomer here. Give me a while to catch up - then more, more, more

Hey yeah micayetoca. I'll ask hammy for the actual lyrics. I can only approximate. :D
I'm the fiddle player so I usually don't pay too close attention to what they're singing - but I'm pretty sure it's -

When I'm in a circle
spinnin round
don't know my ankles from my feet on the ground
and all of my days
they seem the same
spinnin round I found
till someone calls my name
From the place where the fireflies
are woven with the sky
I am following constellations that many years ago have died
up on past the ridge of trees
to the lines of pines
to the by and by -
I'll get there in the by and by.

I want to be wholesome
I gotta hold some time (?)
You're somewhere from here
between nowhere and goodbye
to a place where the fireflies are woven with the sky
I am following constellations that many years ago have died
up on past the ridge of trees
to the lines of pines
to the by and by -
I'll get there in the by and by.

Now I can't leave my baby alone
or let her wander further from where I can throw a stone
she's gone
she's a stone's throw away from me
she's gone (yeah)
(repeat)

Wow, that is some really impressive playing! It does seem like a really fun tune to play with a bunch of people. Very fun to listen to as well, made me smile. Thanks. By the way, is this recorded live? I almost can't understand how you'd record this without all of you in the room at the same time.

It was recorded in a library, actually. The Heart Center Astrological Library, owned by this guy. It was pretty amazing.
