Worse Than Pop - Cell You a Beat for a Nickel
July 5, 2006 5:39 PM
(4:12) In our quest to bring you the lowest in lo-fidelity recordings, this track was recorded over a cell phone, originally for livejournal. Just for fun, I've converted it from a low bitrate .ogg to a low bitrate .mp3. It's not easy on the ears, but then, that's not what Worse Than Pop is about.
This is a little closer to my true sound, though it's not really a full-fledged beatbox. It'll have to do for now. Entirely improvised, just some random beats, and yes, a few slipups (they're meant to be endearing). Hopefully, this will inspire better efforts in the genre to be uploaded to HiFi.

I do this kind of thing in my kitchen all the time, while cooking or preparing a sandwich. Not on a cell phone though!

Man, this is a minute's worth of idea crammed into a four minute slot, innit?

"Man, this is a minute's worth of idea crammed into a four minute slot, innit?"
When I recorded this, I deliberately set out to avoid my usual compulsion of changing everything up every beat. It was conceived more as the backbeat to a song/rap than a standalone piece, but like I said, I was hoping to draw out other folks that can beatbox better than I can so they'll post their stuff here. "That? That's not beatboxin'. This is beatboxin!" Like I said, I've got nothing but a cheap mic on my PDA right now, so I opted to post an older recording of equally questionable quality.
