D's Minor

August 6, 2008 7:59 PM

A song for a special girl. Solo GarageBand piano, some wrong(?!) notes, lots of suspendy chords.

This piece makes me a little embarrassed to admit I was a music major in college.

I recorded it in a take or two and didn't edit it much afterward.

But I like it anyway.

I like it too.

its suspendy, but it resolves well.

There's a chord toward the middle -- sounds like a diminished chord -- that really makes this piece for me. It felt like the key was about to dissolve at that point, and I liked that ambiguity.

Thanks, NemesisVex.

That part was important for me too. Once I had the initial motive down I was a little unsure where to go with it.

Not to get too sappy but this is what you might call a breakup piece and that dissonant collapse part was sort of representative of, well, that. I sort of look at the overall form as how I'd like things to go in a perfect world...at the end, the beginning comes back, but a little different this time.

Glad you liked it.

There is no such thing as a wrong note.
