Outer Space 1 (Demo)

March 6, 2009 1:53 PM

A friend and I had this grand plan to do a side project that would be like latin-inspired retro future lounge music from space. So far it has not really become a thing. This was the first demo for the project. It's a bit sloppy and isn't even half "done," but I like listening to it and I suspect that at least this particular recording will never actually be "finished." So here it is in all of its glory.

And yes, the drums get boring. Sorry about that. That's one of the things that was eventually going to get done.

This is very nice. If you ever think of "finishing" it, I'd suggest some variation in the drum pattern. I mean like micro-manage that stuff. Go nuts. It's the first thing that drew me in, it's a great little rhythm, nice and strong and danceable without overpowering the thing--but throw some DJ-Shadow-type drum machine wankery and you've got a real winner here.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm going to echo what Hoppo said, since it's exactly what I was going to say :) I had fun listening to it and then resetting the play cursor to random points at the beginning drum intro to reset the beat context.

One subtle thing.. maybe an octave below bass doubling on the keyboard to give it some mass? I feel like it's got more potential for rhythmic control and funkiness than the drums at the moment.
