New Melancholy

March 9, 2009 7:15 PM

Recorded in three parts, on my classical guitar. Theres some dissonance in the melody, its reasonably polyphonic in sections, I was experimenting and I'm not 100% sure it works, but the tune sticks in my head after I've heard it. Hope the dissonance doesn't make too many people wince, and its enjoyed by all.

It's a catchy, beautiful melody and very well-played. I wish it was even tighter, timing-wise, but I wouldn't be surprised if others will say that one of the things they like is that it's a little "loose and alive." I also wonder what this would sound like if there was less reverb on some of the tracks, and/or if each guitar recording sounded more different from the other somehow (EQ, or extremely subtle effects). Just some thoughts... great stuff though. Thanks for posting.

Yeah it does all tend to mesh together in sections, I tried panning and little EQ tweaks but I found I was either ruining the sound, or not making significant enough changes. EQ etc isn't my forte sadly :)

Melancholy indeed. Nicely done. You should encode your mp3 at a higher rate. 1mb for two minutes seems really low to me, low enough to audibly lower the sound quality.

Yeah its 64 Kbps - for upload only, my bandwidth isn't what it could be.
