Stay Away

A short, pretty, desperate conversation about need and rejection. Plus arpeggios!

This was an off-the-cuff demo I made when former-bandmate Brian and I were at our practice space. The song never really got any traction in our band—too clean and pretty and poppy, not enough obvious room for RAWK, I think. But this worked out rather well. There's no proper ending for it—again, off-the-cuff—but the fade seems to work well enough.

In the last few years I've found myself tending to write conversations into songs, one way or another—either two "speaking voices" with verses of their own, or the main voice directly referencing what some other character has said, that sort of thing. This is another good example of that.

C'mon man, where's the RAWK?! Ha, seriously, even if I had purchased a "rawk" album, I wouldn't be disappointed to find this song on it. Solid!

Nice take on the first Prelude from the WTC. ;-)

Yeah, it wasn't built specifically as a reference to Bach, but I've always liked that piece and the family resemblence is striking, so to speak.

Great song, but it is a bit... stalker-ish.
