From this comment I made.

My instrument playing skills are (as yet) pretty undeveloped, so I used a backing track.

ocherdraco, this is the most enjoyable 'Mefi in-joke piece' to show up here at Music in many a moon, IMHO. Fun! And good on ya for making it!

Aw, thanks! Also, as it has just occurred to me: is your username a reference to Waffle House or similar late night batter-based foodstuffs purveyors from our mutual home state? Or am I just beanplating it?

My username popped into my head one day for no discernible reason. However, your guess as to its origins sounds damn plausible to me, and might just be the story I go with from now on.

Excellent. I grew up eating flapjacks and hotcakes, and was somewhat surprised when I discovered that everyone else called them pancakes.

I like big LOLz, and I just got one.

You have an awesome voice.

Thanks, mrbill! (And I'm not even singing! Must have inherited my grandmother's radio voice.)

Man I am laughing hard. Mix needs the vocals hotter, though—following along while reading works, but there's way too much backing track compared to the vocals for a casual listener to be able to pick it out.

LOL wonderful!

Haha! this is great. Lovely voice too.

I wondered about that, cortex. I'm such a noob at this, though; I have no ear for that sort of thing yet.

Also, I briefly pondered using "cortex" instead of "becky," but decided that even though it scanned, it wouldn't make any sense at all.

Also also: given that I intend to tinker with the mix on this, does MeFi Music have any way of reuploading to replace a track? If not, is it kosher to upload a new version as a new post? (Presumably a new post would have to have more significant changes than just the mix.)

I'm a longtime listener, first time caller (give or take) over here, and so I don't know my ways around posting stuff.

awesomest thing ever.

I think that'd be not only kosher, but halal as well.

(Presumably a new post would have to have more significant changes than just the mix.)

Not necessarily. A tune's mix is a big thing.

Here's another idea for you, though, ocherdraco. Send me the tracks (you could upload 'em to YouSendit or the like) and I'll remix it fer ye! Maybe throw in a bell and whistle here and there. Interested?

Sure! That sounds great! What format do you want them in? (I will go figure out how to export individual tracks in GarageBand now.)

Also, the "hell yeahs" are just three different recordings of me, one made artificially lower. It sounds crappy, and not at all like a man, which was the idea. Should you want to throw in an actual male vocal there, I would not object, nosiree.

ocherdraco, WAV is fine, or AIFF.

Ha! This made me smile and reminded me of the last post I put on the main site. I committed some abstruse cardinal sin - Christ knows what exactly - and all these smug little dweebs got all excited and patronising about it. So this track is a very welcome antidote ocherdraco. Only two bits of constructive crit: vocal is mixed a little too low (or maybe I'm going deaf from listening to too many loud mixes on cans) and it's too short!!! You should extend it! How about posting the lyric?
posted by MajorDundee at 1:50 PM on November 4, 2009

Yeah, others are saying the same thing about the mix. But I'm new at this. :)

Here's the whole lyric:

Oh, my, god. Becky, look at that post.
It is so big. It looks like
it'll take forever to read.
But, you know, who, like, reads?
They only post it, because,
they know it'll get lots of favorites, 'kay?
I mean, that post, is just so big.
I can't believe it's just so long, it's like,
full of links, I mean—gross. Look!
It's just so ... fat!

I like big posts and I can not lie.
You other mefites can't deny
That when a post comes in with twenty something links
And makes other posts seem to shrink
You get piqued, wanna open your tabs
'Cause you notice that post was fab
Deep after the jump it's leading
I'm hooked and I can't stop reading
Oh baby, I wanna go click ya
Your links are thick, yeah
My homeboys say you're wordy
But those links you got! Ooh, I'm so nerdy
Ooh, Lump-o'-more-in-
-side, you wanna get my faves?
Well, use me, use me
'Cause you ain't an S-L-Y-T
I've seen FPPs
With just one thing to see
I want fat, not flat,
Enough links that it'll impress Matt
I'm tired of fresh n00bies,
Sayin' thin posts are the thing
Ask the average mefite, they won't have to think:
It's gotta pack much link
So, mefites! (Yeah!) Mefites! (Yeah!)
Do your blue posts have the links? (Hell yeah!)
Tell 'em to click it! (Click it!) Click it! (Click it!)
Click that awesome link!
