ninety second instrumental

February 11, 2010 9:15 PM

Back at work as resident composer for a Tokyo fashion house... this time they want four 90-second instrumental spots, for web presentations. Handed this one in to them the other day, but they nixed it: too dramatic, just not right for the project. So, back to the drawing board. Thought I'd put it here, though, so as not to consign it to the Land of Unheard Music.

Woot! This is all kinds of good. I agree with the fashion house; it is dramatic, but that's just fine as far as MeFi Music is concerned. Thanks for saving it from the Land of Unheard Music!

Dramatic......not really. Atmospheric.....yup. It's got a quiet intensity that probably accounts for their reaction - a sort of "waiting for something big to happen" feel. You should try film producers/directors Flapjax.......

Thanks, Effigy2000! And Dundee, yeah, it's cinematic, isn't it? The boss (a really swell guy) of the fashion company said it sounded too much like something from a samurai movie...

Ah, a samurai movie! Yeah, totally. Maybe a sort of avant-garde samurai movie where you're not sure there's ever going to be action besides tortured samurai staring each other down. Righteous.

I love your yearly fashion house submissions. This one somehow reminded me of a video I once saw in your flickr stream where a man is sitting in the metro, captured in the window in front of him and there are things crossing the image behind the window, so i'll join the Major and say that this definitely evokes images.

And that video is really, really beautiful. I mention it here openly because your flickr account is accessible through your profile, I hope that's not a problem.

Yes, very dramatic, cinematic and maybe pastoral...I'm getting a fawn nosing about on the battlefield before the battle. Very sweet piece.

Thanks for your kind comment, mica, and no, of course it's no problem you mentioned that YT clip. I'm actually kinda proud of it, as a little mini-movie, and I did the music for it as well, so I think in a few days, when I can get around to it, I'll dig up the audio for it and post that to MeFiMu, with a link to the video.

Thanks for your comments, too, uncleozzy and sns!

What Morricone would write for a samurai movie.

What Morricone would write for a samurai movie.

Wow, now that is one high compliment. I love Morricine.

will we get to see the fashions this piece will go along with? It's hard to imagine a commissioned piece without the product it's meant to market. Link please!

Looking over some of my old submissions to MeFiMu, coming upon this was interesting: I had completely forgotten about it. That's what 10 years will do, I reckon. Probably several more floating around here that I'd forgotten about.
