The World is Only Bad

An acoustic/alt-country (I suck at picking a genre) song off my album I recorded last year.
I recorded this song using acoustic guitar and electric bass. I didn't have a drum set at the time so I used by acoustic for percussion and banged on a door for the kick drum. I think I also used a can of cous-cous as a shaker. I love looking around the house for things to use. This song is a little more up-tempo than the rest of the album.

No, that's a happy accident. You know, I own that album but haven't listened to it an awful lot. I'm not really familiar with that song but it probably subconsciously slipped in there. FWIW I like his lyric "And the days went by like paper in the wind" better than mine.

Yeah. It jumped out at me because I listened to that album to death one year in college. Intersection of simple line and simple sentiment and a little bit of hindbrain, yeah.

Very, very nice, actually. I really like the sound of the hand-on-wood percussion. I did something similar (beating with my knuckles on the guitar) on this one. The sound of the "percussion" kinda similar, and it's very unique, I think.
But other than that, your songwriting is amazing, the ambiance you managed to create in this one is really nice and your voice is very nice as well.
I don't think I've heard your other songs - I'm going to as soon as this ends- but you've made a fan of me. Welcome here -even if it's a late welcome.

Thanks micayetoca. I love the sound of hand-on-wood percussion too. It blends perfectly with an acoustic guitar.

This is really good! I love the improvised percussion - feels like a song on the back porch in late summer, and could easily be an entire band with the range of styles you've got going on. Reminds me a little bit of early Ryan Adams, which is definitely a good thing as far as I'm concerned!

Is the "and the days go by / like a picture in the sky" turnaround an intentional callback to Tom Petty's To Find A Friend off of Wildflowers, or is that just a happy accident?
