World Beneath the Tracks

June 3, 2010 9:15 AM

A brand new song I really wanted to record right away, even though I didn't have any instruments with me. So I used a plastic water bottle... Rubbermaid brand, I believe, and recorded it straight to video with my new camera, which has a pretty decent mic on it, as it turns out. The video's at YouTube.

You found the perfect room to record this. I think it stands as is, no further instrumentation required.

Oh, and the video can be seen at Vimeo too, for those who prefer that site.

Recorded on June 2, 2010, in a conference room in Ichikawa, Chiba, Japan.

WORLD BENEATH THE TRACKS

i want to leave on the midnight train
i want to ride til the wheels wear down
i want to look out the window as the ghosts fly by
as the world beneath the track spins round
as the world beneath the track spins round

i saw a mule break free from his plow
i saw him fly away with the dove
i saw a wounded man in the graveyard
whispering all i needed was love
whispering all i needed was love

i heard the joke about the blind man
heard my sister's voice through the wall
saw my father climb the razored rungs of success
saw him lose his footing and fall
saw him lose his footing and fall

i saw the dancer wrap herself in chains
i heard the silver tongued devil stammer
saw the gambler play the wrong card over and over
heard the clock tick like a sledge hammer
heard the clock tick like a sledge hammer

i want to leave on the midnight train
i want to ride til the wheels wear down
i want to look out the window as the ghosts fly by
as the world beneath the track spins round
as the world beneath the track spins round

"Oh, I've found myself in an empty office with only a water bottle and a camera. I guess I'll record an awesome little song, just to, you know, pass the time -- why not?" THIS IS WHY I CAN'T STAND YOU.

Seriously, this is pretty super.

THIS IS WHY I CAN'T STAND YOU. Ha! This is why you're so cool. I've NEVER heard rubbermaid sound so good. Not even when I'm crackin' some open to eat some of Momma's lasagna!

I started playing the song and then clicked on the yt link. Amazingly enough the yt started exactly 4 verses after. I was amazed at how awesome that sounded.
