My Train is Coming

One of my contributions to an XTC tribute album project from 2001. The song, written by Andy Partridge, was taken from a rough demo floating around on bootleg cassettes, but never actually released by XTC.

Partridge recorded the demo as a possible theme song for the movie Buster, but Phil Collins apparently passed on it. XTC recorded it during the Oranges and Lemons sessions, but it was never seriously considered for the album. There's yet a third demo on the Fuzzy Warbles box set.

Anyway, that's me on the bass, and I'm your lead vocalist for the evening. With help form my buddies Brian and Joe on guitars, and Dennis on drums. The intro and bridge originally had a harmonica part, but since none of us play the harmonica, I came up with the Beatles bit, since the song has a Beatles-y feel to it. Recorded and mixed by Mark Hallman at Congress House studio, South Austin, TX. (Previously, from the same session)

Heh, that opening chord, man.

The bridge is nice, also.

Really clean recording. Good vocals and harmonies, too.
