Spanish Bombs

A folky cover of The Clash's "Spanish Bombs" featuring micayetoca and Miss V.

melissa may and I asked micayetoca and Miss V (is she a mefite yet?) to help out with this cover to help promote an album project that is coming out next Tuesday and they said yes. He and Miss V added instruments and singing and an overall greatness to the track.

this is lovely. i don't know the original (not sure if this heretical or not, but i never liked the clash).

What a great collaboration! (collaboration tag?) This has a really rich Latin feel. Very, very full and rich. Ha, I've already listened to this 4 or 5 times if that says anything!

whoops, added collaboration tag. thanks, sns!

What's the whistling sound going on the background? It really gives it a Neutral Milk Hotel sound.

i believe it's actually whistling, I think from Miss V., but maybe micayetoca. thanks for the kind words.

also, peterkins, for what it's worth, i hadn't listened to the clash in about 10 years until one day this song popped into my head. So no worries!

It is (whistling, that is), and it is her (she isn't a mefite yet, I'm still her Metafilter filter), though some effects were added to it b sleepy pete, I believe.

Before this he had invited me to play in a couple of the songs for that album and I tried, but since I had recently moved I wasn't set up to record anything appropriately. I kept banging my head against the wall for missing that, and then he invited me to do this. I was thrilled.

Those of you who don't know it yet, definitely check the band. It's a box full of great surprises.

Great stuff. That whistling is unreal, and it really ties things together nicely. Kudos.

Awesome, sleepy pete. Super excited for the show on Friday! Will you play this?

Hmmm, not sure. Probably not since I haven't played and sang it at the same time yet...

Just so you know, I'm available for that show on Friday. e-ticket is fine, of course, just send me the code and I'll run to the airport.

yeah, I know. I wish I could, man. That would be so great. You could just pretend you're me and play whatever you like and we'd call it good... because it would be.

The Clash meant more to me in my youth than almost anything, and this just about brought me to tears. Beautiful. I thank you for it.

Great re-invention, I love the 1-2-3/1-2-3-ness of it, and the choice of instruments makes it feel like a folky waltz being performed in some European forest.
