White Boy Rap

Nation of Lies

In a nation of lies
truth is an enemy of the state
now organizers hoped to draw
several thousand people to their
noontime anti-war event
near the national air and space museum
hoping their message would not be overshadowed
by the local NBC prostitutes on video
walking right past this huge anti-war demonstration
without even slowing down to do a story
on the pro-war demonstrators
with obvious military haircuts
you know why?
since they've been told point blank
they'd be fired if they were caught holding
any of these deception dollars

In a Nation of Lies
Truth is an Enemy of the State

but who cares? do you care?
do you care since the Bush administration
has prevented witnesses from providing
public testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee
about "Able Danger".
Able Danger you say? What is Able Danger?
It's a secret military unit that's said to have identified
four of the September 11th hijackers
more than a year before the terrorist attacks
in an outright unwillingness to be open and honest
with the American people
about this supposed fight against terrorism
that's just a hoax to justify real war.

In a Nation of Lies
Truth is an Enemy of the State
In a Nation of Lies
Truth is an Enemy of the State

And what about Chavez
who Pat Robertson suggests we kill
in direct opposition to the words of Jesus
while Chavez quotes
"be careful with the government you have..."
pointing out the the United States
has so much power that it can start a war
and destabilize a country without even
taking care of it's own people.

In a Nation of Lies
Truth is an Enemy of the State
In a Nation of Lies
Truth is an Enemy of the State

And yeah, Korea.
Did we ever learn anything in Korea?
Korea has a powerful deterrent
to a US nuclear attack
criticizing moves in Washington
to authorize pre-emptive use
of atomic weapons
since the US can have 'em
but nobody else can

In a Nation of Lies
Truth is an Enemy of the State
In a Nation of Lies
Truth is an Enemy of the State

And oil has sparked World War Three
while the President says
"We can't withstand another disaster
as a hurricane"
While we spend billions of dollars
in Iraq, while revoking tax cuts
and refusing to tax windfall profits
for oil companies
while we borrow every penny we spend
In a Nation of Lies
Truth is an Enemy of the State
In a Nation of Lies
Truth is an Enemy of the State

Yeah and that's easy for them to say
since it's not their kids dying in the sand
'cause it's easy to dismiss reports
and nip ideas in the bud
and suggest that truth is a cynical ploy
even though accusations turn out to be false
with no hard evidence
once again getting firm accusations
backed up by nothing
while your soul is sold
and the wrath of God is shown
is probably shown in two storms
that knocked out almost all of our
energy production in this country
and a fact finding mission in the middle east
found out there's a deep and abiding anger
towards US policies and actions
where large majorities of our middle east brothers
view George W. Bush as a greater threat in this world
than Osama Bin Lauden

In a Nation of Lies
In a Nation of Lies

Well, let's see... the US lied about weapons
of mass destruction in order to invade Iraq
And Bin Lauden was originally trained
and funded by the USA and now he's dead
and now the only evidence linking him
to 911 is faked
while the US has whored itself out to Israel
and sent your kids to die for wars that Israel wants
while ignoring the will of the American people
AGAIN.

Thanks for marking this as a favorite Major! It was made in deference to the first Rap artist,
Bob Dylan.

Disbro, this is excellent. I love your vocal delivery. You have kind of a broadcast sounding voice here that's really compelling and true to the piece. I really enjoyed the guitar at the end too. Great stuff man!

Yeah, the vocal delivery is cool -- it sounds like it could be a re-purposed TV editorial or something, kinda like a Negativland sort of thing.

Thanks for the comments... I am a radio producer, and thought the comment on a broadcast sounding voice was interesting. I don't usually do music this way, but it was a neat foundation for getting a lot of vocal images across quickly and to the point.

Another winner. I remember when you first cut this. Good stuff!

it was a neat foundation for getting a lot of vocal images across quickly and to the point. Absolutely, and it worked really well. With a vid this could go viral.

I don't think "white boy rap" does justice to this. This, musically, feels closer to Talking Heads than to Eminem or any other white rapper I've heard.

Also, I can't believe you quoted Chávez. Extra points for that.

Thanks for the great comments and video pointer... I might just put a slide show together for YouTube
