Chromatic Satori

January 31, 2011 5:47 PM

For the January challenge, fellow mefite mahershalal and I came up with this little number. Kind of a jazz-influenced instrumental shoegaze number, I guess.

mahershalal contributed the drums and acoustic guitar (including the outtro), I'm on electric guitar and bass. We would have liked to have taken it a bit further, but it's Jan 31st and time to turn in our work...

Maybe we'll push it a little further and re-submit, but either way it was a lot of fun, and we hope you enjoy!

This is really, really great. I hear it sharing an orbit with air, broadcast, and stereolab, and that's good company.

Whoa. This is very cool. I have no idea what to even call this.

I love it, it sounds like vintage Twisted Nerve stuff.

Thanks all!

Big props to malocchio for turning everything into a more than convincing whole.

I hadn't even noticed the similarities to Broadcast – I reckon we can live with the comparison. Gonna go look for a female vocalist now.

I loooooove ballsy, super-stereo, "I Am The Walrus" mixes like this one. That bass sound is amazing and this is just lovely. Please start a band.

Yeah, you guys need to move to the same city immediately. Sounds like your jamming to your neighbor's drumming in the apartment below you, and then you guys stop playing and you notice the person in the apartment building next to you guys with the window open is playing along as well. Beautiful. Love the genre title, too.

Broadcast

RIP

You guys sound great together! It's not often that I hear anything so relaxing and yet so jamming at the same time. Bravo!!!

It definitely sounds like you're both having fun, and it comes through in the recording, I think. It's fun to listen to -- and the little details in the playing make things interesting (the cymbal at the end is a nice touch). I really like the meter you chose, which gives an extra sprightly feeling. I hope you do continue developing it some more, if you can.
