Longing for Summer

September 21, 2006 8:48 PM

Mainly an experiment with a new microphone. The vocal needs to be re-done, and made louder. Otherwise, it's okay. Oddly enough, it's about this girl... I hope it's not gauche to post lyrics :-) Longing for summer In the Snow that fell around us All around the town Following children Running In and out of my life Getting drunk and dancing All we had we lost Turned into Ice Waiting for aeroplanes How could You expect much more from me? Did we stand a chance? I tried to keep you Dipping Into London guidebooks Thermals and two bedspreads Even though we knew you'd Never Delay ?

Hmm, since the line breaks in the lyrics have vanished I'll try that again:

Longing for summer
In the
Snow that fell around us
All around the town
Following children
Running
In and out of my life
Getting drunk and dancing
All we had we lost
Turned into
Ice

Waiting for aeroplanes
How could
You expect much more from me?
Did we stand a chance?
I tried to keep you
Dipping
Into London guidebooks
Thermals and two bedspreads
Even though we knew you'd
Never
Delay

I'm one of those who thinks we should all post the lyrics, even if I don't do it myself. Funny, just yesterday something related to this came up in MeCha .

Also, I'd like to add that, in my opinion, when you post a song as good as this one, man, you can anything you want.

Nice song. Interesting imagery in the lyrics too.

The posting engine seems to strip those line breaks out, I've had the same thing happen to me. It's probably a good idea, or the front page of Music would be very long.

Darned pretty. A bit Smiths-y, somehow.

Aww shucks. Thanks. I really should break out the recording equipment more often.

If you make anything a bit louder, make it the birds.

That's a gloriously rich guitar sound. And a beautiful voice too.

What a gorgeous song. And I'll just go ahead and assume that new mic is working out for ya.

Have you heard Midlake, ajp? If not, I recommend checking out The Trials of Van Occupanther ASAP.

Thanks for the recommendation ludwig_van. I hadn't heard of em, but I like what I've found.

edlundart... in case you're wondering about the guitar sound, it's an acoustic Crafter, miked with both a floating Seymour Duncan pickup, and with a Rode NT1-A. The pickup went into a Line 6 Pod (with some very sparse amp settings) and the whole lot went into my M-Audio Firewire 410. After balancing those two recordings against each other, and slapping some EQ on it, I'm quite pleased with how it came out.

Hey ajp, I downloaded this song a while ago when you posted and I love it every time shuffle brings it around. Any chance you'll post another one?

micayetoca: who knows? :-) Maybe a dip in your pool would persuade me.

Fantastic! Your production is excellent (not to mention playing and singing). I came back to ask what you were playing ...such a deep, rich sound with a bright hint of the bronze. Love it!
