Bizarre Musical Traditions?
December 6, 2011 4:20 PM
Do you and your friends/family have any fun/strange/bizarre/WTF-worthy musical traditions that come up this time of year? You should share them with the group! Maybe we can glean a few from each other, and make them nation/world-wide...
E.G. This year, man vs sun and I are taking part in a new tradition (this is the second year, hopefully it keeps running) of our old improv group at the University of Oklahoma (New Improv! Century Ensemble, or N!CE)--taking a classic Christmas film, and showing it as a silent film, with an improvised underscore.
Last year, they did It's A Wonderful Life. This year, we're upping the ante with Die Hard. It should be a spectacular time.

at least judging by the fact that my bandmates weep with laughter when I sing it

That sounds like spectacular fun! Die Hard went pretty seamlessly last night. It was the longest performance of my life, doing a single, contiguous piece for 2+ hours, but it turned out quite well. maybe we'll post it here in chunks, or just the whole thing with a bitrate of, like, 12.

Every year, I plan on recording a version of Carol of the Bells, and every year I fail to do it. Six years running now, at least!

It's been a lot of fun. Our ramones-style run through of White Xmas with a Jumpin' Jack Flash break in the middle is one of the funnest things I've ever played. And it turns out I am unexpectedly good at the Shane McGowan part in Fairytale of New York.
