the first album i ever bought was the monkees' first album, in '66, i think - music by carole king, lyrics by gerry goffin

and yes, i still like them - look, they covered carole king, ok?

i had singles before this, but they were given to me by my dad - some school colleague of his left them and i don't know which would be "first"

actually, the first 45 i really remember was a "golden records" kiddie version of "the yellow rose of texas" - nope, not going there ...

I've always loved the Monkees version of this. This almost sounds like a Velvet Underground track. Especially the guitar on the right side. Really nice. Thanks for posting it.
