Or So The Story Goes

In more ways than one, the flipside of "In A Heartbeat". and an example of Reggie - the pallid suburban knock-kneed whiteboy version of Reggae....

Or So The Story Goes

daddy told me
it’s a lottery
that’s how the story goes

time and tide
hopes and dreams
just skip and skate away

I been looking so long
no-one came along
it seems too late now

love is spiritual
physical
or so the story goes
call me cynical
I think it’s mythical
and that’s how the story goes

all my heart lives inside a song that no-one hears
but that’s my fault
rejection is my defining fear
(go figure)

when I was young I would sing songs of hope.

love is poetry
ecstacy
or so the story goes
well that’s as maybe
so far as I can see
that’s how the story goes

love is sweetness
kindness
or so the story goes
love is bitterness
and a lot of stress
that’s how the story goes.

I liked this, enough to think that it'd be cool to hear a "lusher" version - more key parts, backing vocals, more 'verb on things, especially the lead vocal. Think Squeeze.

good vibes - happy feel to this with a little Elvis Costello and The Specials influence it seems :)
