A tragic interspecies love song with a special rap section in the middle.

Cleaning up and old hard drive and look what I found! This is nearly 100% computer composed and generated music.

Sometime in the middle of the last decade I bought my first computer--a Mac 6100. It came with the standard Apple text-to-speech capabilities for which some enterprising person wrote a piece of software that allowed you to modify the pitch of each syllable. To have the Mac "sing" you just import a midi melody and then type in the words. The syllables would flow from note to note automatically. Around the same time, music-minus-one practice software Band-In-A-Box added a feature called "The Melodist" with which one could set some parameters and create an "original" song in seconds--with full arrangement of rhythm section, melody, harmonies, and soloists. I combined the two processes and called the music "Alienpop." I solicited lyrics from some friends producing goofy songs like this in just a few minutes.

Here are the lyrics for Interplanetary Lover:

I gaze down at you
From my ship
In the sky
What do I see?
Two eyes that cry
Boo hoo
Boo hoo

I know why you're sad
Lacking mirth
Down on Earth
Life without meaning
Inferior being
Boo hoo
Boo hoo

Follow me to the stars above
For interplanetary love

You'll love my big head
extra long
fingers too
scaly green skin
octupal chin
You'll love
me so

Making love in a pot of gravy
Flip you over and we do it crazy
Lick the sauce right off your butt
Slide in the probe and fire it up!

[repeat 1st section]

Wow.

If only one enterprising surgeon teamed up with the enterprising person who wrote the software that makes the computer sing in tune, and between the both of them came up with something that could make desafinados follow the notes properly, there would be hope for the likes of me.

Cool story, man. Thx for posting it.

This is really great. I'm laughing but I really like the song, too.
Usually the use of the Mac voices is so tired and pretentious and OK Computer-y, but not here. This rocks. And rolls.
My favourite is
Life without meaning
Inferior being
Boo hoo
Boo hoo

Wow is right! Forgive me but this makes me think of the singing animals at Chucky Cheese (animatronic animal band).

It also makes me think of Blade Runner, like this is what the future sounded like when you made it. Awesome!

I'm glad y'all got a kick out of it. I thought it was fun too, and didn't want to just let it sit there on my old HD.

I do have more. Even though they're pure novelty, they are somewhat musical. That BIAB generates some damn catchy tunes! I like melody and changes at

Follow me to the stars above
For interplanetary love

Also how the styllables of "interplanetary" fell.

I'll dig up another. Stay tuned.
