A short exercise in "Hey! Do something for a mid-70's movie/TV sci-fi soundtrack!"
ARP Synth, Roland SH-201 synth, Clavinet (Nord), Rhodes MK II (Nord), Fender J-Bass/Ampeg (disco eighth-note octaves), hand-played electronic clave (trying hard to emulate the Korg MiniPops but accidentally playing the "Blurred Lines" cowbell part), garageband loop (buried), hand played cymbals.
No sequencing or quantizing.

If you're hearing "dirt" it's most likely in the bass signal chain. I wanted to use bass guitar instead of keyboard bass in order to capture that Buck Rogers/Logan's Run vibe.

The intentionally dated effect on this is cool and you've pretty much nailed it, but I'd be curious to hear it brought up to date as I really like it as a track - modernizing the sounds somewhat and adding a bit of a beat. I think it could come out as something quite Air-like, something you might hear in a cool french discotheque.

Yeah, I like this a lot. Can't decide if it's too short or if it's better for packing a lot into a short piece without repeating itself too much.

One of my favourite genres of music, perfectly evoked.

Thanks!

Air is a big influence, and I was both channeling them and drinking from the same pool as them. As far as adding more beat, I have a new Korg Volca drum machine on the way, as well as plans to get the new version of Logic Pro in order to take advantage of its drum tool.
Can't decide if it's too short or if it's better for packing a lot into a short piece without repeating itself too much.
I hear you. It's intentionally short for two reasons:
1. I give myself these goofy little challenges and intend to execute them quickly.
2. This particular challenge was to do incidental music for a TV show or movie. I was deliberately avoiding any sort of development.
