Sand Palace
A cheesy little synth funk tune that I made about a decade ago to accompany a presentation or something.
I re-discovered it this morning while cleaning up old files in a google drive.
phone in yer stomach
My friend's 7 year old kid made up a funky, surrealist 3-step parable of cause and effect, and I built the musical accompaniment around his 1 minute of wisdom. It turns out that if:
1. You put a phone in your stomach
2. You say boom!
3. The phone will inevitably, eventually ring [more inside]
Tough Love Black Eye
Punk, metal, jazz, slack, folk and noise. This pretty much typifies the grab bag that was my band, Big Ghost. Like trying to get Pavement and RHCP to agree on California rock. It's a mess, but it was our kinda mess. [more inside]
One More About Face 2
A basically complete track from a planned upcoming album (which will also include Where No One Has Gone Before), partly to get feedback and partly just to light a fire under my ass to keep working on the damn thing and maybe finish it this year. As indicated by the title, it's the second (of 3) songs planned for the album titled "One More About Face." [more inside]
Hot Mess
A jazzy/funky/noisy/weird tune written for the 60 second challenge. Just sort of stops instead of ending. [more inside]
And Laugh
Taken from 'Reasons To - SMLE'
MinnēFunk
I don't like the look of those clouds. Better bring in the funk so it doesn't get rained on. But you can leave the noise outside. [more inside]
Collard Greens
Most songs I write are about relationships and life and whatever, but this is a funk song, and it's about nothing.
It has some pseudo-metaphorical lyrics that gained meaning after being put down, a direct quote from an old tennis coach I had in college, some electric piano I wish was a real and not just in my computer, some funky backing guitar by a friend of mine, a piano solo out of a wild west saloon, and then various layers of looped acoustic drums and electronic beats.
B Reel
I thought it fitting that my first Mefi Music post should be something I've never done before and is pretty well outside my usual realm of experience, so tada! This is a beat I made for a friend, but things fell through and now it's a lost soul. [more inside]
Rough Voyage
dissonance jam
Remix Snippet
What might be the outcome of taking a rather dreamy pulse-based trance inducing track, stripping it back, adding an addictive disco electronic undertone and phasing ghost-like vocals here and there (and rather rare)…? Have a listen and then you will know :)
The Andromeda Stain
A short exercise in "Hey! Do something for a mid-70's movie/TV sci-fi soundtrack!" [more inside]
If You Want Me To Stay
Another jam (Sly cover) at yet another gig, circa 1994. It would have been totally forgotten and unremarked were it not for the fact that someone taped it. [more inside]
Heard and Said
I tried to imagine what Duran Duran's "Notorious" would sound like if it were originally written by Japanese funk band Zoobombs.
You've Got To Titan Up Your Kuiper Belt
Astral Funk from my improv trio, Carbon 7. This is what happens when you let the drummer set the theme of the jam. [more inside]
Electric Eel (work-in-progress)
Chippy aquatic electro-funk. Somewhere between P-Funk and Drexciya. [more inside]
Something Funky
Mostly finished electro/house track that I'm working on, wouldn't mind some feedback...
Boom Chicky Boom
I've just started a new band. It's a rollicking affair, kind of a neo-primitive, New Orleans funk/blues explosion, with tuba, drums, and yours truly on diddley bow (etc) and vocal. This is the first song of the first set of our first gig, and was a completely impromptu, unrehearsed affair. These guys can read my mind, and I think it's gonna be a really fun band. Well, it's already a really fun band, actually. I do hope you enjoy it. Video here.
Turn Me On
goofin' to da funk.

Use What You Got
(to Get What You Want). Another Salvaged From Cassette™ production. Circa 1986. The Beat Meters were my Funky Dance-pop orchestra. [more inside]
Baltimore Funk
I've been listening to a lot of boogie, funk and electro from the early 80s recently. This is my dubstep homage to those lovely genres. [more inside]
You Got Your Popeye Hanging Out
In the noble tradition of the New Orleans "Popeye" song, a rather ignominious entry. [more inside]
I Want You Back
Everybody driving by my window the last three weeks has been blasting Michael Jackson, I couldn't help myself. Maybe got a bit carried away. Many apologies to James Jamerson. [more inside]
Lorem Ipsum
A hypothetical j-rock anime theme song using a simulated choir, simulated singer, simulated orchestra, simulated drums, but very real guitar and bass -- it is at least somewhat rooted in reality, as is the well-known passage that serves as the lyrics. [more inside]
Breadlines
Some classic dubstep with a little funk halfway through. [more inside]
Hopscotch
A laptop-demo of a song that I'm doing currently live solo + live with a band. This version if solo + looped, so it's one take, but I'm looking to record it for real pretty soon - so please, I beseech you for constructive criticism! Gracias!
The Happiness of Not Having to Lift Things
This is a new piece our band, Falex9, is developing. We didn't know what to do with it lyric-wise until after we finally got a permanent rehearsal room in Seattle and realized how happy we were that we didn't have to lug our gear around anymore. The song may have a slightly deeper meaning in the future as we refine the lyrics / music. Either way, it's been a fun playing it. [more inside]
One of the Perks of Being a Well-Known, Albeit Ineffective Superhero
This is the fourth (and maybe final) People Will Blink song posted on this page. This one is definitely a prog-rock tune. It's about a day in the life of a superhero who doesn't really.... do anything. But there's an epic battle at the end. [more inside]
Dumb Dynamo
A short, wild song featuring my good friend John Bonham on the skins. [more inside]
Feline Fossil
Yet another song from the new People Will Blink record. This song really kicks in at about 1:15, so be patient. [more inside]
(8-Bar Wake) Before an Irish Funeral
First song off of the new People Will Blink record. This song was written about 3 years ago and went through many transformations before it began to sound... well... listenable. When we played this song live, Azeem used a vocoder during the bridge. He forgot it in California when we recorded, so we used a clarinet, melodica, and recorder in it's place. [more inside]
Electroball
More inexcusable noodling, only slightly funkier. [more inside]
Original Recipe
This is a recording from Ground Zero in Troy, NY. I played a solo show for about 50ish people and a stuffed pony.
Groovebooty
A groovy little excuse to abuse a wah pedal
Blackout (John Scofield cover)
Just me and my friends making music in the basement. This is a live studio cover of John Scofield's Blackout.
Positronic Hips

The Semi-Coherent Funk
A 1 minute, 43 second ditty. This was the first thing I did when I got Garage Band 2 years ago. All the drum loops are stock, and I'm riffing on bass & "lead" bass. I improvised over the groove until I got something I liked, then looped it.
Sum Yung Punk
A little adventure into some left-field drum'n'bass. Strangely enough, when this song started out, I intended it to be a little ambient-melodic piece for my four-month old. Pretty early, though, it just screamed out for a beat...
Feed Off
Another song by my ex-band, again with me on trumpet. Mellow soul/funk.
Spacetalk
A Van Winkle side project, Kurt Kostokos on guitar and drums, and Dave Appelbaum on keyboards. Definately of an exploratory sonic nature...
Meat And Crackers
Me on keyboards with Van Winkle (bass, drums, electric guitar)
FERB
FERB - 'Funky Electronic Rhythm n' Blues' is a little blues track I wrote and performed for a small class gig we did last year for the sake of putting on a show and having some random musical collaborations. I'd classify this as the first gig I ever did but fortunately I had some incredibly talented guys in the band to make me sound good!
Zoe Aionios
life in the age to come... starts out as da funk, and goes somewhere far, far, away.
Drift Thing
This is the title track of my band, Themasses, new CD. It was originally an instrumental but had lyrics and melody added by singer extrordinaire Sherry St. Germain during the recording process. It was produced by Ben Kaplan and Themasses and recorded at The Farm Studio in Gibsons BC, Canada. Enjoy!
Slush Spell
JunkWise is dubbed-out electronic Go-Go, "live".
Still In Love
I'm here to move your booty. (From 1999 Planet Vinyl album - booties were moved and the band had nothing left to do.)
Lovely & Charming (Live in SF, 2002) - Audiosports
Oh, you have so many secrets!

Champagne Jam (Part 2) - Audiosports
This track is part 2 of a 23 minute mega mash up with a steady beat and some obscure samples. When I played this set live, I was happy to see people breakin' to it. Cool! http://www.albertoforero.com

Hillbilly Disco
This is just an improv jam from a rehearsal with my old band. It's a little bit funky, a little jazzy. Overall it's just a really fun groove IMO. The recording quality is not the greatest but it's not too bad. It features me on drums, my buddy Dan on guitar and another guy named Jonathan on keys.
Enjoy.
