Music for Erik Satie #2
September 19, 2013 11:26 AM
Another piece written as an homage to Satie.
This follows from my earlier work posted here: Music for Erik Satie #1. Once again there are some obvious and not-so-obvious references to Satie's music but filtered through my mostly atonal sensibilities. The changes are abrupt but I think work OK. As usual you can download the sheet music here. You can find the rest of my music at my website.

I don't think most people are familiar with his choral works for piano which makes up the first and last sections. The second section is clearly a reference to the Gymnopedies. The third section is just some scale stuff but I can't remember which piece of Satie's inspired that. My favorite bit is the last section of the choral stuff with the passing notes -- it's about as "beautiful" as my music ever gets (in the traditional sense).
I really can't decide which one I like better. I tend to like my music better when it's shorter and maybe this one feels more compact? Or at least I spend less time on each musical idea. Who knows.
Anyway, thanks for the comment!
