What It Did to You

February 13, 2015 10:14 AM

Smooooth, sloooow reggae featuring a dreamy brass/ebow instrumental break, "sensitive" percussion, a falsetto bridge, and a sweet guitar solo at the end.

This is one of the better arrangements I've ever managed, I think. I have no idea what kind of appeal this song has to others, and it may seem boring to some, but I'm quite happy with how it flows forward, how the mix of sounds merge together into a cohesive whole, and how the melody has attached itself to my brain after repeated listening. Hope you like it!

what did it do to you
when i finally told you we were through
what did it do to you
when you learned there was nothing you could do

you may not like it but it's true
you drew the plans but i followed through
and i'm not sure but i've got a clue
what it did to you
what it did to you
what it did to you

ooh when you think back to our time together
do you feel it
the happy and the sad
ooh when you think back to our time together
do you feel it
the void of what we had

what did it do to you
when you looked at our romance in review
what did it do to you
when you understood it was overdue

you may not like it but it's true
you drew the plans but i followed through
and i'm not sure but i've got a clue
what it did to you
what it did to you
what it did to you

I really like this. It's the most soothing breakup song ever. I think the bridge would benefit from more EQ processing; a telephone filter is kind of overused, but in this case it might sound like you're actually making the breakup call, you know?

Thanks! That's a really good idea -- I'm already pushing the EQ in that part toward an "artificial" kind of sound, and maybe it's not far enough. I'll definitely try it out.

I agree with pushing the EQ processing on the bridge too, but that's just a little thing. Great tune. I like your style.

Hey, so nice!
I like the contrast of the chugging organ on 2 and 4 and then that slightly sitar-like guitar drone sailing across.
That's a really cool juxtaposition.
