"It had been three days since the haboob and he was still coughing up gritty phlegm. It was a small price to pay for covering his tracks, but it had taken a toll on his mount. If he didn't find shade and water soon he would have to abandon it and try to make the rendezvous on foot. The device wasn't heavy but its bulk would make for slow progress, and his pursuers were as relentless as the African sun. He hoped their camels were as worn out as his. He replaced the revolver in its holster and whispered encouragement to his weary beast."
