An experiment in writing songs without choruses.

Sometimes the mistakes turn out better than the plans.

This is fantastic - I listened to it several times in a row just hearing how it came together. Really structurally interesting - feels so dynamic and surprising and I love the flirtation with dissonance but how it's underpinned by harmony. So well engineered, too - all of the individual sounds are really crisp and interesting and the mix hits hard. How did it come together? Did you start with the sample stuff at the beginning or was it one of the later sections?

Excellent. Great texture and tone, complex and balanced. Love the arrangement and the effects on the vocals. Sets a confident groove and a contemplative mood.

This sounds like a fully mixed and mastered track. When is the album out?

Hey, cool. I figured mefi would mail me if somebody commented, but apparently not.

raisindebt, it was a weird process that started out as a guitar song... eventually we got into the sampling, and then we realized we had too many bits and we had to strip it all back and rip out a lot of stuff because it sounded better sparse.

grumpybear, I'm going to take the "sounds fully mixed" as a compliment since it was our first real go at trying to make a polished recording :). We just self-released last week.. more here if you're interested <3

Very well put together, nice job on this! I feel like you've achieved an impressive and enviable level of "punch" to the beats, echoed by some of the staccato feel of (or quickly cut off) guitar stabs as well. I find that difficult to do myself, so I noticed it straight away. It makes the whole track feel very energetic and powerful. It sounds both rough and polished, somehow.

Just pitching in to agree, this is a top quality mix of a really interesting song. I'll be checking out the rest of your EP.

Thanks edlundart - rough and polished is exactly the kind of thing we were after, so it's great to hear that that comes across. These comments mean a lot.
