Another Coursera musical offering

Fundamentals of Music Theory, offered by the University of Edinburgh, starts today (8/3/2015).

It runs through late September. It's free to follow along, and for something like $50 you can get a 'verified certificate'. Usual disclaimer: I have no affiliation with Coursera or the university, but I'm going to try to do this.

(I posted about the Intro to Classical Composition course through the National University of Singapore earlier this year. That one was excellent, but a bunch of real life stuff blew up in the middle of it and I got derailed.)

Oh terrific! Another one to keep an eye out for is Berklee's Developing Your Musicianship, which I think is just starting its third week; so probably too late to do it for a certificate this time around but from what I remember of it it shouldn't be too hard to catch up as a casual participant. It takes it pretty slow and doesn't go very deep but the material is well-presented. I took it last fall and found I already knew a lot of what was covered based on my own learning-by-osmosis over the years, but it was good for reinforcement.

Thanks for posting, usonian -- I remember your earlier post too. Even though I'm still not in a place where I have the time to dedicate to such a course (alas), I appreciate you mentioning these. I look forward to the day I have more time for learning music and playing music in general.

I hope you and billiebee post later about what you think of the course -- I'd be interested in hearing your opinions. Have fun!

I just noticed this so it's a little late for my opinion to matter, but I wanted to let you know that I took this course last year and learned a lot. (I was starting from a fairly blank slate though.)
