76t Doomsday

Zombie Hymn. Tune arranged from Abraham Wood, 1789; words by Joseph Hart, 1762.

Behold with awful pomp
The judge prepares to come
The archangel sounds the dreadful trump
And wakes the general doom.

Nature in wild amaze
Her dissolution mourns
Blushes of blood the moon deface
The sun to darkness turns.

The living look with dread
The frighted dead arise
Start from the monumental bed
And lift their ghastly eyes

Found this tune in The Shenandoah Harmony, a shape note book that's a sort of heir to the Supplement to the Kentucky Harmony published by Ananias Davisson in 1825.

It sounds more impressive when we sing it.

I wish I had a voice like yours. I could listen to you sing the phone book.

That was lovely.
