Festive Season Challenge: Pessimism/Optimism

November 16, 2015 3:19 AM

Either bring the blues or put on your rose-tinted specs...

We always do a little something festive around this time of year, but this time I'd like to challenge you all to create a track which will be a tonic for all the souls out there who have had enough of sleighbells ringing, and need either a morose meditation or a ray of hope.

It's a complicated time of year, I want to say for some people but realistically for most of us to some degree. Maybe you'll have a track which gets down to the sad side of the season - soothe with empathy the souls of those missing loved ones (or made miserable by them) or who have simply massively overdone it on the eggnog.

Then again, it's also a time of anticipation - there's nothing like the approaching turn of the year to spur you on to a fresh start, and the promise of the season turning in a few short months. Maybe you have a song to catalyse that hope, for those who need it.

So whether a lament or an ode to joy - bring out your festive tunes for the last challenge of 2015! Tag your submissions MeFiMusicChallenge and Pessimism/Optimism to make sure they're included in the list of entries. And look out for the next podcast, which will feature some of them!

Holy crap I JUST NOW read the title of this challenge--after having done a demo of a new song called, of course, "Optimist." Synchronicity or weird subconscious business, who knows.
