Uncle Pen

An old-time take on a bluegrass tune.
I learned this from the playing of Nokosee Fields at the (virtual) Santa Barbara Old-Time Fiddlers' Convention this afternoon. Someone in the chat said it sounded like "Melvin's" Uncle Pen, but I don't know which Melvin. Melvin Wine, maybe? It's definitely not how Bill Monroe and Kenny Baker play it, in any case.
I play everything around this tempo, so it should probably be faster, but this is where I like it. Fiddles are me, everything else is Strum Machine.

I like how the tune gets the old style bowing treatment, considering I know it from the sweet long bow Kenny Baker original style. Saw the Big man and Baker many times live, and it never occurred to me that anybody would play with the tempos. nice stuff!
