When Green Leaves Spring (It's Good To See You)

This short (1:16) instrumental ditty is what happened when I started learning a new recording platform that came with loops of instruments I'd always wanted to play or include on my recordings: pedal steel guitar (I was super excited about this especially -- I've wanted to work with pedal steel for a really long time), baritone guitar, and mandolin. And did I mention the bossa drums? Not sure if I went overboard but I had fun and liked the result. [more inside]

A Five-Cornered Square

Another noodl-ey instrumental - the ingredients of this one are a guitar driving a synthesizer and a multiFX over a bed of soft-synths and drum emulator(s).

Paperweight

Mining old acoustic songs to deconstruct and add beats to. This song gutted this time.

Whimsy Will Be the End of Me

A remix of an old acoustic cover of a Slipknot song. Glitched-out and re-sampled beyond recognition.

Nineteen Thousand Sunsets

Ambient instrumental piece. It's a rather ambient dialog between the guitar and a bell-like sine synth. Long pauses. Slow paced. Throughout my life, one of my constant joys was always watching the sun go down. I've seen so many variations of this event that I wanted to express a condensation of the variety and bittersweetness of all those sunsets. [more inside]

Made In The Image

New and much improved mix of a song from a few years ago. Kinda rock-metal-electronic fun with a pretty good helping of vocal harmonies. Critique away!

Folky electronic music.

Spacetime

A little progish - lots of analog synth, lots of interesting sounds, harmonies, counterpoint, a little odd meter, hopefully pretty catchy chorus, and one of the more obscure lyrics I've written (lyrics inside)... lots of stuff! [more inside]

Love You To Death

A real dirty blues track about murder, complete with slide guitar solo and a nice heavy beat. It's still a rough mix so will have to tweak a few bits and pieces.

Keep Laughing

Another one from the Retrospective. Written when I was 15, I always considered this song to be a more or less blatant ripoff of Lush's “For Love.” The original lyrics were even more painfully awkward than these are, and I was stuck for years on how to improve upon them, but desperation finally took precedence over inspiration: I was literally scribbling them at stop lights on my way to the studio. Not a creative high point, then, but the production is among my sharpest. To their credit, the Science Park line-up of that time made a huge impact.

Time In The Sun

Mostly instrumental. (I'd keep the repeated line, but replace the wordless vocal bit with some horns if I had access to any, and have them carry on through the rest of the song.) Much, much more guitar layering than I usually do. Strangely (?), I think my favorite parts of the song are skittering electronic bits of the drum track and the bass line.

Circling Wolves

The oldest song I've written that I'm still willing to play, think about, work on, etc., etc. It's also changed rather radically from its even shorter original form, and it's gone through a couple lyrical rewrites. It grew a beat about six months ago. I think this is probably the final form structurally and lyrically, but I'd probably work on it more if I thought I could improve the sound quality significantly.

Glow

I made this song last summer (2006). It has the usual synth and drum machine, as well as the addition of a little guitar. Very fast-paced, yet relaxed. Oh, and, of course, it'll someday (maybe) have lyrics.

In The Dark

The last song on my first solo record. Very sad melody and lyrics, keyboard and guitar. Get the rest of the record at the MySpace.

Waiting For You

This is the first song of at least 6 that I will release on my first, self-released EP in the near future. I'm currently figuring out how to arrange a live set with my music as everything was played and/or arranged by myself. I now release my music under the moniker mixedtape. The Freudian Slipper was my old name :)
