True Love Will Find You In The End (Daniel Johnston Cover)

If you know of him, you may have an opinion that Daniel Johnston is a outsider genius, a troubled victim of hipster exploitation, or simply a not-so-typical independent musician who found his audience. If nothing else, his work is irrefutably full of sincerity and emotion. This little piece of his is one of the great American songs. [more inside]

Dark as a Dungeon

An old Merle Travis song that I learned years ago when I first started getting into bluegrass. Another chance to break in the new resonator guitar, and do some fun chorus harmonies. [more inside]

In The Pines

I went and bought my first resonator guitar yesterday, a Gretsch Honey Dipper (evidence), and this seemed like a good tune to try and break it in on. [more inside]

High and Dry

A cover of Radiohead's H&D on resonator guitar in open G, for the minor/major challenge. I originally intended this to be a shitkicking country stomper but it turned into something quite different. [more inside]

Such Great Heights (cover)

I've always had a soft spot for this Postal Service song, so here's an acoustic cover featuring resonator guitar, pump organ, and ten copies of me. Lighters out for the last chorus, please.

The Cavalryman's Lament, (Girl on a Swing)

Orgiastically melodromatic Jacques Brel-inspired version of the strange little ballad I posted a couple of days ago. [more inside]

Girl on a Swing (Ballad of a Cavalryman)

This is a super-rough demo of a song I wrote yesterday for the 'Has Been for Years' song fight. It's a gothic little waltz using a resonator guitar, told from the point of view of a trooper in the 7th cavalry who was killed at Little Big Horn while waiting to be relieved by Reno's troops. Recorded before I put my pants on, for the challenge. Video proof is here. [more inside]

Louis Collins

Quick 'n' dirty cover of Mississippi John Hurt's old song played on my resonator guitar. Levels are a bit off, volume jumps up and down a little... but here it is anyway. [more inside]

Stagecoach

A song about how frustrating it is to really want to be angry at someone, but they keep joking and not letting you be mad. ("you" = "me")
