jim gets lost on purpous

July 22, 2007 1:42 PM

jaunty little ditty about poor ol' jim, cuckolded soon after moving to boston with his finance. not entirely sure where this came from except that i'm very very very often lost in boston. usual stuff: buzz guitars, fake drums, computer blips and me shrieking like a dolt. enjoy!

some lyrics:

who will sing in this city
game on game on
you train your dog and i'll train the city
scared to death and i'm out of my depth
drawing maps with every step

just leave before i get back home

there's no shame, it's chemical
it's criminal to keep it in
and this city of ours is no help at all
just make sure

he leaves before i get home
cuz i don't want to see you down

i'm kinda coming to see you
game on game on
culture shock, customs and costumes
just blowing around in the air

i don't know this neighborhood
coming up on baker street?
i've gone 32 blocks and now i'm running like a dog
and i know i got folks in the city
i've got places to go
i don't ever have to be alone

if he leaves before i get back
just leave before i get back home
cuz if he is there with you
i don't know what i'm going to do

Hey man, this is chock full of wholesome goodness! But man, it would be better with your voc pulled up front more. Pretty much, as good as the music is, and it is, I wanna hear your voice more.

A+ or a 10.

And fake drums? I understand the sentiment, but they really work for ya.

Like it a lot. I agree with snsranch about the vocals too. What mic did you use to record 'em?

mic: a slammin radio shack unidirectional number. Which is what i also used to record the guitar and bass. i've got kinda a budget job going here. i get by on fruity loops effects.

thanks for the input. i'm going to beef up the vox in some of the louder sections.

Yeah the vocals suffer from the quality of the mic much more than the guitar or bass does. You have a very rich voice which the recording is losing because of the low frequency response of the mic (I'm guessing it's got an upper range of about 15/16kHz) so it sounds muddier and further back in the mix than it should. If you get the chance I'd replace it with a semi-decent vocal mic, cos that's the weak link in your recording chain at the moment as the rest of the production/performance/songwriting is fantastic.
