The Great Space Darkness vs Love

February 10, 2010 5:34 PM

A short but epic song that dares to ask: Is our only hope in this war against the great space darkness the love of an ageless, gender neutral couple? Will their love be enough?

I've been working on this one for a few weeks, now. I'm glad I've finally been able to get a predictable series of notes out of the trombone I picked up a few months ago -- I have little idea what I'm doing with that thing.

The out-of-tuneness right away, straight out of the starting gate. Nicely primitive percussion, quarter-note handclaps, treated vocals, unison phrases, unexpected & unpredictable song form... then come the off-beat hand claps, and the end that we didn't see coming... what's not to love?

This is like if prog metal weren't metal, and also if it were way awesome.

I love this song for the obvious reasons (many of which flapjax listed above) and it still blew my mind although I read his description before listening to it. Never thought a vocoder would work so well with your stuff, but it does.

And flapjax, applause for you as well.

Have I told you lately that you're great, Mulp? Because you're freakin' great.

Also, I'm putting my money on their love being, in fact, enough.

Every time the subject of space enters your songs, it just works so, so well. Impressive organization in such a small piece.
