Darker Shade of Blue

May 25, 2010 6:30 PM

Another semi-autobiographical 1995 slice of cheerful melancholia. But a pretty guitar riff and one of my favorite choruses to sing, even if I never really could hit the last note. There's an electric version of this with more of a Big Star / Matthew Sweet feel, but darned if I can find it and anyway I like this one.

DARKER SHADE OF BLUE
words/music © J Brownlow

Lights are coming on on every street in town
I love to sit and watch the sun go down
I never knew a darker shade of blue
Until I lost the sweetest thing I'd found

Well, here it comes
Here it comes

Cracking up while the world is cracking down
I can't get my feet back on the ground
If there was a way to be with you today
I'd stay with you and watch the stars spin round

CHORUS
Well, here it comes
Here it comes
Here it comes

Back on the streets again
Back in defeat again
Back where the lights of love go rushing by
Back on my own again
Back on the road again
I wish I could be where the sun is high
I'd love to see you when the sun is high

Wind is coming up, sends shivers down my spine
Midnight's gonna stay with me, the perfect time
And all that I can do is sit and think of you
And wish there was a way that I could make you mine

CHORUS

Good song. I like the signature guitar riff.
