Summer's Calling (remix)

I wasn't at all happy with the first version of this challenge track that I posted. So I redid it, and now it makes me feel all sunshiney inside.

I re-recorded all the vocals, which were horrible, re-recorded the bass with the original part that I wrote for it using a capo (which works perfectly! who knew you could capo a bass?), and swapped out the drum samples for something a whole lot funkier. Then I mixed it again from scratch, including putting all the harmonies in stereo, which I failed to do the first time.

So much happier with this version.

Yeah, the stereo harmonies was a great call.

On my headphones, at least, I find the hi-hat on the first couple of choruses a little overwhelming -- I like the later choruses better because of that. Otherwise, the drums on this version are better.

I want to reiterate what a great outro that is.

Glad the capo suggestion worked out!

Thanks -- I'll look at that -- this is a new bunch of samples I'm using and I'm still getting used to balancing them.

Re the outro, that was an idea I had for backing vocals for the beginning, but when I mixed it I preferred the intro without it, so I decided to use it as an outro instead. I love it when backing vocals pick up a phrase from the main lyric and repeat it, but slightly differently, dropping a phrase or something, so it's familiar but different.
