Norwegian Wood

When I'm in a prolonged songwriting funk - which I am now - it can sometime take a cover of a favorite tune to snap me out of it. Let's hope this does.

Heavy on the vocals and guitar octaves, plus a cheesy drumbeat. No sitar, sadly.

Sweet. The set back vocals are used to great effect. Sleeping in a bath is still one of my favorite Lennon visuals. Do people really think the narrator burns this chicks house down in the end? The guitar octaves are a sound I'm really into right now. It was good to hear them.

Love to hear such hoary material done with some original flourish and passion. Very cool! Hope it helped...

This is just lovely - lazy, airy and sweet. And it's not a cover - it a version. Big and important difference. Great vocal as usual. I could quibble and say that the lyric for this is actually one of Lennon's "nasties" and therefore a rather more aggressive reading might be called for. But, fuck that. This is great.

PS I love those far off "it's time for bed" backing vocals - now, that kind of subtle little touch is what marks you out as a wee bit special.

Great job, ORthey. I really do like it just as much as the original.

Man, ORthey, I think I agree with the Major in that your ability to take something that is such a superlative and seminal (?) Beatles song and give it such new and beautiful life is a big deal.

I don't know if you feel the same way, but your picking and vocals on this are some of your best. I really do hope that this helps you snap out of your funk. You are one that I'm sure many of us here look forward to hearing.

The guitars on this are lovely, and it is a great re-working.

If you'll forgive me one criticism - the first note you sing sounds a little faltering. Might be worth overdubbing if you felt inclined?

It's only a shame because the rest is sung so strongly :) the "la"-ed bit is particularly nice.
