Daylight Again
Still in a Stephen Stills mood, I guess. Video.

A song about a nice Jewish girl
This is my second pass (previously) at the Bach/Gounod “Ave Maria,” this time with acoustic guitar accompaniment. Video.
Moonshadow
The Cat Stevens classic is a favorite of my grandson, so I recorded it for him.
Here Comes The Sun
2020 has been a hell of a decade, and George Harrison's classic is a great expression of relief over the election outcome. Acoustic guitar, recorded on iPad Pro. Video.
A Whiter Shade of Pale
The Procol Harum song on solo acoustic guitar and voice. Recorded as an iPad Pro video, reverb added with MicSwap Video Pro, then exported as audio.
Fifth take, as evidenced by the exasperated opening.
Some Of Shelly's Blues
I've been playing around with a different feel for this Michael Nesmith classic. Recorded on iPad Pro, first take, rough vocal.
Manhattan Skyline
Some recent discussion on MeFi about the band a-ha reminded me that I'd recorded this acoustic cover of one of their songs a long time ago. This is actually based on an arrangement by Kings of Convenience, who made some interesting changes to the original song structure. Me on vocals and guitars (nylon-string and steel-string). Both Hands - cover (Ani DiFranco)
Acoustic guitar and voice. Pretty straight as far as my memory of the proper song goes. [more inside]
When the Curtains of Night
I'm happy to present my collaboration with not_on_display: this is our version of a neat little tune that was included in The American Songbag (a 1927 folk song collection by Carl Sandburg); the song there was itself derived from a late 19th-century song by William S. Hays. [more inside]
The Leaving of Liverpool
I had a great time collaborating with billiebee on a cover of this traditional folk song/sea shanty. The goal was to record a simple arrangement that was different from the more lively covers out there -- to borrow billiebee's phrase, a gentler version. I'm hoping our rendition highlights the lovely melody of the song. [more inside]
Small Blue Thing (Suzanne Vega cover)
Recorded this quick and dirty into my phone, so there's a few bumps here and there, but overall OK. Not really my optimal vocal range though...
Dam
Atmospheric alt-country song about realizing the person you're with would be better off without you. [more inside]
Celebrated Summer
My 12-string and I take a fingerpicking stab at the Husker Du classic. [more inside]
Dang Me
Woke up this morning with a sore throat and my voice about an octave lower than usual so I figured it was time to record a cover of Roger Miller's despicable novelty hit that was #1 on the country charts the day I was born. Despicable because it's a song written from the perspective of a complete cunt. So I brought some self loathing to the table, along with the sore throat and my complete inability to play blues guitar.
Moonshake (two chord version)
Can cover, E7 and A7. Response to two challenges. [more inside]
Fear of Falling
By chance I just came across this recording I made over a year ago. The song is by the chronically underrated I Am Kloot.
Monkey
At empyrean's request.
I needed a break from mixing my own songs anyway, so I threw together this quick & dirty cover of the Counting Crows song in 15 minutes, and uploaded it warts and all - one take off the top of my head, complete with missed notes, words, and chords. Enjoy.
Not For the Season
A cover of a song by Wilco or Loose Fur, depending on how you look at it. [more inside]
