you've been awake

Lyrically naughty, musically atmospheric. Features guitars, vocals, brushed drums, African thumb harp, clothes hangers, and a shy half of a fake symphony orchestra.

The part with the oooooh, where the snare comes in and the guitar (harp???) is doing the tara tatara kills me. I absolutely love it. It almost seems like two different songs (the verse part and the oooooh part).

I listened to it a bunch of times before commenting. And I still can't put my finger on what makes each part so different for me. Perhaps it's the prominence of the guitar (the du-din du-din du-din) that is there in both parts but in the chorus it kinda blends with the rest. And I think you did a good link with the keyboards when the "chorus" ends, before the voice of the verses comes back. But perhaps this all is too much of an opinion. If you feel I said too much, let's go with "Oh, man, the ooooooh part kills me, I absolutely love it."

If I may free-associate, this reminds me of going over to a friend's house and he just found the out of print vinyl of an obscure late 80's/early 90's band and he says "you HAVE to hear this." and you stand together silently, listening to a excellent songcraft from band that was way ahead of its time. It's new, but familiar in a really nice way. Beautiful.

You're right--it's criminal that this has fallen through the cracks. I'm listening with my nice new headphones, and the wash of sound never gets muddy or messy.

Terrific song. A big hit in a just universe.
